There is no better alternative to healthy natural teeth, which is why our doctors at Cosmodent strive to preserve teeth for as long as possible and restore them in a way that requires the least amount of replacement of tooth structure. However, if a tooth cannot be saved, the most similar solution to its natural state is represented by implants.
Titanium implants have been used in daily dental practice for decades, providing dentists with extensive long-term experience. Their mechanical stability is good, and with careful oral care, they can serve patients for their entire lives.
In some cases, however, due to inadequate immune system function, tiny titanium dioxide particles detaching from the implants may cause local inflammation.
To detect titanium intolerance, there is the so-called Titanium Stimulation Test (available at LaborExpress), which detects titanium sensitivity from blood samples. What can you do if you are affected? In this case, you don’t have to give up the benefits of implant restorations. In our clinic, the Camlog (Camlog Ceralog) and Straumann (Straumann Pure Two Piece) two-piece ceramic implants have become available in Hungary for the first time as a result of the latest research.
Breakthrough has been achieved with implants made of the new composition of zirconium oxide ceramics: the new implants have performed well in tests both in terms of tissue reactions and resistance to loading. For example, in experiments, bacterial adhesion was three times lower on ceramic surfaces compared to titanium, and the bone loss caused by bacterial plaque/inflammation was also significantly lower with zirconium implants. Based on our clinical experience, the gums respond very well to zirconium implants, remaining inflammation-free even after several years in the mouth.
Compared to titanium, achieving the same mechanical stability requires manufacturing larger diameter screws, thus requiring thicker, higher quality bone for their integration. Although bone augmentation can create suitable conditions in most cases, it also increases costs. Due to the larger bone surface-implant connection, the expected healing time will also be longer.
Their major advantage is that when used with crowns made of pure ceramic material, they provide perfect aesthetic results. Their light refraction is very similar to natural enamel, making them virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth – achieving a durable and beautiful final result. The inflammation-free gums associated with ceramic implants also significantly contribute to their favorable aesthetic effect.
